When to use
- A quarterly estimated-tax deadline is coming (mid-April, mid-June, mid-September, mid-January) and your business spend runs through Ramp — corporate cards, bill pay, reimbursements.
- You're tired of exporting card and bank statements and adding up the expense side by hand every quarter.
- You want a labeled ballpark range to sanity-check against what your CPA or tax software gives you — not a number you'd pay without checking.
What it does
Bundles two pieces that reinforce each other, in one install:
- Ramp (the connector) is the official hosted Ramp MCP: with your own Ramp login (no API key to paste), the agent reads your transactions, vendors and accounting categories, pending reimbursements and bills — admins see company-wide data, employees only their own. Ramp MCP can also act (approve transactions, lock cards), but this Plugin's job only needs the reading half.
- Quarterly Tax Estimate Prep (the skill) organizes year-to-date net profit (income minus business expenses) and last year's total tax liability into the inputs a quarterly estimate needs, states the safe-harbor rule in plain terms, and shows a step-by-step ballpark range with every assumption flagged — never a final number, never filed.
A real example: you ask "Pull my year-to-date business expenses from Ramp — cards, bills and reimbursements — and prep my Q3 estimate. Income so far is $84,000; last year's total tax was $19,400." The agent reads the spend from your Ramp account, the skill computes the labeled range, and the output says exactly which inputs are real and which are assumptions.
How to use
- Install the Plugin and connect Ramp — your Ramp login in the browser, no API key; your role and permissions travel with the connection.
- Give the income side yourself (Ramp doesn't know your revenue) and last year's total tax liability if you have it — the skill refuses to invent either.
- Ask the agent to read the year's spend from Ramp and prep the quarter's estimate.
- Take the range to Form 1040-ES, your tax software, or your CPA/EA for the actual payment amount — this Plugin's output is a planning aid, not the number you send in.
Why the bundle works
The skill alone needs income and expenses handed to it — and the expense half is the painful one to gather every quarter. The connector alone knows what you spent, but won't shape it into a tax-ready estimate. Together: the cards, bills and reimbursements you already run through Ramp become the expense inputs, with the math shown step by step and nothing typed in by hand.
Limits
- Ramp supplies the expense side only — income, and last year's liability, come from you; the skill flags what's missing instead of guessing.
- Per Ramp's own docs, MCP queries that would return more than 100 rows come back empty until you narrow them — for high transaction volumes the agent may need to pull the year's spend in chunks (by month or by vendor), and very large books may still need a spend export from Ramp itself.
- The ballpark range is a planning estimate with assumptions flagged — not a filed number, not tax advice, and not a substitute for Form 1040-ES, tax software, or a CPA/EA.
- The connector can also approve transactions and lock cards; this Plugin doesn't use any of that — prepping your numbers reads only, and changes nothing in Ramp.
- This is a server hosted by Ramp (
mcp.ramp.com), not something on your computer: what the agent sees is bounded by your Ramp role, and admins control who can connect at all.
